Family Swim

In our own way
in our own time
we step into our waters
for a swim

Perhaps as a family
perhaps one after the other
perhaps in the afternoon
Wind whips waves
to greet our ankles
to our knees

sometimes to our hips - excitedly

We fall into the wet motion
dark water claims our bodies to our shoulders
we wear the water
we are waves
of emotion
we float upon slick crests

become whitecaps

we eat the froth of chines
joyously
we are the ocean
we ride our waves
ourselves
we see far horizons
between brief moments rising
families of thoughts and feelings
ride currents and tides
in timely ocean
metaphors we swim
buoyant
