P'Emily's father, Leonard Clopton - musician artist, first introduced her to art. He emphasized the importance of focusing on an image primarily; then design, layout and execution. Work it out first in your head and then get it down as paper and canvas are limited and expensive.
Essence of the horse moves through much of her art. A line swells in girth and comes to life; an allegory, symbol.

Horses like to be brushed, indeed.

PAINTING

She finds that working with an oriental brush on paper and canvas is most natural to this end.

This method can have it's drawbacks; many long moments before strokes flow.

Her oil and acrylic paintings tend to diverge from this with her working through problems on the ground as they occur. When painting is limited to two or three colors, an overlapping technique is employed that offers up interresting textures and history.
