In this piece, I honor the time I relocated the well for my place in Winlaw. I dug a new well a bit uphill from the house as the old well site was situated below where white men lived. I dug it in an old creek bed that was situated in a high ground water level area. GOOD CHOICE!!! Right!!! Dig it in, line it with good culvert and carefully back-fill around water lines, pipes and electric line. Then install nice little house to cover the brand new pump and tank!!! WOW.!!! |
Well... Well, the pump and tank worked great for about two GUSHING gallons and then the new well hole was as dry as Aunt Thelma's britches after they'd been hang'n on the closeline in late July for a week. A very dry year, that one... So!? Go back down to the old well hole and clean it out, dig it out and deeper and move pump, tank and nice little heatable house onto new, old site. MORAL: Nothing is ever as simple as the simplifier. |
